Mambo Tutorials PDF Print E-mail
This page was created as a chronological walk-through of the Mambo content management system (ver 4.5.1). We started this project by building a web site from scratch and documenting every step of our install, setup and configuration for our clients to be able to find answers to confusing questions. If you are new to mambo please flow through and watch each demonstration as it will help you have a better holistic understanding of Mambo. If you are familiar with Mambo, feel free to browse these section titles to learn more on a specific subject. Also, we HIGHLY recommend the Mambo Quickstart Guide TThis Link is and Acrobat Reader Filefor new mambo users. It is a heavily illustrated walk through the basics of mambo. It is published by a third party, as we do not have rights to modify it, so some things will look slightly different than out sites, (e.g we use a different editor) but on the whole a very valuable resource.

Note:These three sections are filled with tutorials pertaining to many different aspects of Mambo. They function as java pop-up windows loading flash narrated tutorials. We realize that some files are large (up to 8MB) but we felt it was better to have narration and walk you through the steps verbally. If you have trouble, you can always email us and have send you a copy of these tutorials on CD for $5 charge (USD)

Adding Content (Content Menu)
One of the basic advantages to mambo is that you the end-user can add new content to your site with very little effort and training. For a basic understanding of how mambo handles its files please go through all three parts (even though most sites Mission Linx Communications builds comes with the Sections and Categories setup for you.

Working through Mambo's menus from Left to Right
Site Menu
Many 'basic functionality' things reside under the 'Site' menu in your mambo installation. Browse them by title at the right

Menu Menu
The menu section holds all the menus for your site, and gives you the ability to add items or change their order.
  • Menu Manager
  • Main Menu
  • Multiple Menus
  • Adding A Menu Item
  • SWmenu Pro

Content menu
  • See 'Adding Content' Above

Component menu
Components are similar to the idea of a 'plug-in' that you add to the core mambo installation. Components add functionality to Mambo allowing it to do things like have a Photo Gallery, a Web Link Page, or run a Newsletter.

Module Menu
Modules are used as place-holders in displaying information on the left, right, top or bottom of the page (most places except the main content area) They can contain items like flask content or content you make yourself.

Mambot Menu
Most of the time mambots are used for more advanced features like pop-ups, crawlers, or specific search engines. There is one common Mambot you will get aquatinted with thought. TMedit. It is the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor that lets you add content easily to your site

Misc and Advanced Topics

Check-in Check-out This Link is a Flash Video(Misc)
this is the concept of how items are checked out to you as you use them and checked back in as you save or close them. Here we attempt to explain the ministry behind the locks that keep appearing on all your articles and modules.

Multiple Templates: This Link is a Flash Video(Advanced)
This tutorial will cover the concept of using more than one template on one site, (the demonstration shows how to make one as the index page, and another for all secondary pages.) Note: Both templates are designed and uploaded prior to demonstration. If you want to know how to do this, design two totally independent files (even if they are, like in this illustration, basically the same). They should be up loaded as two different templates, each with its own folder and xml file (even if all the other files are basically the same)

Mambo Cleanup1 This Link is a Flash Video(Misc)
Mambo Cleanup2 This Link is a Flash Video(Misc)
Mambo Cleanup3 This Link is a Flash Video(Misc)
Cleaning up a mambo installation, getting it ready for configuration. This just the steps I take when I preparing a fresh installation to be setup for a specific user.

Mambo Components, Modules, and Mambots Resources
The purpose of this list is to give Mambo users a head start on finding the most popular, most requested, and most useful open source Mambo add-ons. This will help current users to be more successful, new users to get started faster, and potential users to better evaluate Mambo. While this list attempts to be fairly comprehensive, it is not meant to be (or able to be) a complete list of all available CMM resources.
